The ISOSCAN® EDS551 is an insulation fault locator with six integrated current transformers for the precise localisation of insulation faults in un-earthed power supply systems (IT systems). It enables rapid and reliable fault identification within the monitored IT system.
If the insulation resistance falls below a threshold value, the ISOSCAN® EDS551 automatically triggers an alarm. To use the EDS551, an ISOMETER® of the type isoMED527 or LIM7 is required, which injects the necessary measurement signal into the network.
The ISOSCAN® EDS551 is available in two device variants. In the basic version, the alarm is triggered at a fixed threshold value of 50 kΩ. In the version with function module A activated, the alarm value can be flexibly set between 50 and 200 kΩ per measurement channel. Additionally, this version measures the leakage capacitance and impedance per measurement channel.
Measurement values and alarms are made available to other bus participants via the Bender Smart Connect (BSC) RS-485 interface. For display and alarm functions, the use of special indicator and test combinations (e.g. CP305) is recommended in order to comply with the relevant standards.
The ISOSCAN® EDS551 features an integrated bus terminating resistor for the RS-485 interface, which can be activated via an internal switch. The current status of the bus termination can be conveniently displayed via the device interface.
The ISOSCAN® EDS551 is equipped with an NFC interface. This allows the device to be configured using the Bender Connect app, both when powered and when unpowered. In addition, device information can be read out, data backups created and function modules installed.
The maximum permissible mains leakage capacitance is 5 μF. Individual parameterisation must be carried out in each case to adapt the device to the on-site system and operating conditions, in order to meet the requirements of the standards.

All device variants of the ISOSCAN® EDS551 are available from the factory. The basic variant can be retrofitted with function module A if required.
